3 Day Navigation Intensive Adventure

Are you looking to become a wilderness navigation expert?
And have a great time exploring some of most amazing places in southwest while doing it?

Then the Arizona Adventure Institute 3 day navigation intensive is for you. You will spend 3 days in the back country learning how to navigate by various means. Classes take place in the Grand Canyon, the White Mountains of Arizona, The Sky Islands, the Superstition Wilderness and the beautiful Escalante area of southern Utah. We begin by teaching natural and terrain based navigation techniques, using the land, the sun, the moon and improvised instruments to find our way. Then we learn the compass, finding and following bearings, calculating slope, triangulation and much more. Next we learn topographic maps, and how to use them with a compass as well as understanding coordinate systems such as UTM and long lat. Then we put the two together in a real world setting to navigate using maps and the compass. Next you will become an expert on using a gps, relating it to the topographic map and how to get accurate locations. Throughout the program we will be using the skills in a real wilderness setting, adding an element of adventure and creating a beneficial experiential learning environment. The final day will be spent honing your new found skills on a custom built wilderness orientation course that uses all the skills we have learned throughout the course. Trips are filling up fast so contact us today for a schedule and more information.
